He playedamateur football in Gladsaxe in a variety of positions. He used to love playing upfront but his real talent was in goal keeping. Schmeichel was so good that he was soon playing as a professional for Hvidøvre. After 3 years of playing, he was snapped up by Brøndby I.F who saw the potential that Peter Schmeichel held. At this point, he became a regular for Denmark’s national team where he established a reputation as one of the best. Unfortunately for Brøndby, Peter's reputation reached England where Manchester United made an offer that could not be refused. £550,000 was handed over to take Peter Schmeichel to Old Trafford and the rest, as they say, is history.
